Call me crazy, but I don't like any of his music. Not the slightest. IMO, he is one of the most overrated solos of all time.

A slightly different topic, it appears almost all TV stations are broadcasting that concert memorial thingy today. Reminds me of this article here.

And in other news, it appears China is on fire.

I don't think anyone has claimed him as the king of music. Just the king of pop. Now that he's dead, take a look around. Has my generation (or yours) produced someone that could really go toe to toe with Michael Jackson in terms of his performance (both his literal stage performance and his album sells)? I don't think so. At least, that I can think of at the moment. The only act that comes to mind is The Jonas Brothers and I honestly don't know anything about them so I shouldn't have even brought them up. Say what you will about the "repetitiveness" of Michael's songs. That same thing can be placed on every single artist. Dream Theater? I'm sorry, it all sounds the same. Megadeth, Metallica, 'Maiden? All of their shit sounds the same when you really pay attention, no matter how much you love them. The current state of rap? I can't tell one spook from the next. They're as disposable as they are impersonal. Michael was an eccentric, fucking weird space cadet that left behind a tragic story and allegations. Half of the mystique was the man himself, not the music.
I dunno, Kayne might be looked at as a pseudo-MJ of this generation.

Kanye West? I'll take your word for it. It sounds better than the Jonas Brothers.

I wouldn't call anyone the next Michael Jackson. The dude crossed genre, race, and gender barriers to achieve near universal appeal in his music and image. Nobody can claim to have anything near that popularity today.

Plus albums simply don't sell like they did back then. I still can't get over Thriller's amounts of units shifted.

I don't think anything can have the same impact as Michael Jackson, The Beatles or movies like Cassablanca. We're past the "new" stage and from now on it's just perfecting what has been beaten to death before. Even Internet jokes are starting to lose popularity and originality since RickRolling became popular.

= No artist will be able to receive MJ status.
